Zappa’s jazz

Dave Taylor (OSL, JJ Dec 2018) rightly extols the extraordinary music of Frank Zappa. But was there another side? His first drummer, Jimmy Carl Black, on the Mothers of Invention debut album Freak Out, latterly fronted Zappa-influenced Liverpool band The Muffin Men.

At Alexander’s in Chester, when introducing the song “We’re Only in it for the Money”, Jimmy announced “It should have been called ‘He’s Only in it for the Money’ because as sure as hell I never saw any of it”.

Like Dave, I too would appreciate an article of the subject of Zappa-jazz.

Very pleased to see that the online version of JJ continues the standards of the print version and more.
