Drumbha: Drumbha

Focusing on ambient music and soft rock, the Italian duo's half-hour recital is unlikely to appeal to any jazz follower

Drumbha consists of the percussionist Giacinto Maiorca and brass player Oscar De Caro, joined by a substantial cast of musicians including a string quartet, fulfilling a “walk on” appearance.

The basic instrumentation promises something of interest, which remains for the first couple of tunes. But it soon dissipates as things progress amidst a wash of synthesisers, drum machines, assorted brass instruments and vocals.

This is unlikely to appeal to any jazzer of any persuasion as Drumbha dip into areas of ambient music, soft rock and beyond. The positive comes from this release almost certainly being put together during the restrictions of lockdown.
