The BBC jazz axe

I was dismayed to read that the powers-that-be at BBC Radio 3 are planning to axe Soweto Kinch’s Jazz Now and Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz from September this year.

World music programmes and Late Junction are also going to be severely affected.

Could this slashing of airtime for minority music programmes on Radio 3 have anything to do with competition from the new light classical digital station, Scala Radio?
