They say : The two internationally acclaimed jazz guitarists, Stowell (US) and Kwella (DK), is a musical meeting between two guitarists from different continents. Since 2009, they have performed regularly and over time they have developed a shared language and musical universe on stage — their own “room”. After their tour in 2025, they spent a single day in the studio recording nine tracks without overdubs or corrections, which are now being released on the Danish label Gateway. (Gateway Music) Hear Kwella & Stowell.

Lilja, Oddrun: Muna
They say : Muna began life as a commissioned work for the 50th anniversary of Vossa Jazz in 2023. The melodies begin in Nordic modal shapes before stretching toward Middle Eastern or Carnatic contours; familiar forms are gently displaced until they sound both ancient and newly made. Guitarist Oddrun Lilja is joined by nu-jazz stalwarts Beate Lech aka Beady Belle (vocals), Bugge Wesseltoft (keys) contemporary folk pioneer Anders Roine (vocals, langeleik, Jew’s harp, guitar) Jo Skaansar (bass) and Helge Norbakken (percussion). Loxbo, Finn: Lummerknikt
They say : Known to some for his ensemble work with Anna Högberg Attack or Magnus Granberg’s Skogen this is a solo outing for the Swedish guitarist. On Lummernikt, Loxbo’s guitar often sounds more like a concert harp or the West African kora as he shifts a set of melodic fragments and extended lines through rapid-fire arpeggiated permutations with a spontaneous energy that is countered only by his extraordinary touch on the instrument and an undeniable sensitivity to his material’s dynamic potential. (Fönstret-17)
Madre Vaca: Tunnel To The Moon
They say : The Florida-based composer-led collective Madre Vaca releases the wild improvisational collection of songs Tunnel to the Moon on May 22 on its own label. (Madre Vaca Records – 001) Hear Madre Vaca.

(Independent)
Mingus, Charles: Mingus Ah Um
They say : One of Mingus’ most personal albums, and one that produced a series of songs that have become standards. “Better Git It in Your Soul” is inspired by gospel singing and preaching of the sort that Mingus would have heard as a child growing up in Watts, Los Angeles, California, while “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” is a reference (by way of his favoured headgear) to saxophonist Lester Young who died shortly before the album was recorded. Mueller, Tobin & Martinez, Tomás: Blue Sides, Vols. 1&2
They say : Blue Side Vols. 1 & 2 runs the jazz gauntlet, from contemporary jazz, blues, bee-bop, post-bop, with a little chill thrown in. Most are intimate duets, scaled down arrangements, including a gorgeous rendition of Gershwin’s “Summertime” and numerous tunes that demonstrate the breadth of Mueller’s writing, such as the heartfelt and evocative “The Shape of Love” and the cinematic, soaring “Just Above the Ground,” featuring a gorgeous saxophone contribution from Martinez.
