‘Vanguards of contemporary British jazz’ are nominated for Brits’ alternative/rock act

Ezra Collective's publicist says the London group have 'continued to redefine and popularise jazz across the globe and across generations'

London band Ezra Collective, known for various appearances as a jazz group on TV and radio, have been nominated in four categories in the 2025 Brit awards – Mastercard Album of the Year, Group of the Year, Best New Artist and Alternative / Rock Act.

Their publicist says the announcement comes after a “string of historic wins” for Ezra Collective last year, ranging from becoming “the first jazz act to headline OVO Wembley Arena” (following, for example, the 1975 appearance at the north London auditorium of David Sanborn and Al Jarreau) through to being “the first jazz band” to break the OCC Top 10 album chart, with their latest album Dance, No One’s Watching.

He adds that after playing in the US and Europe, and with a South American tour lined up for next month, “the vanguards of contemporary British jazz have continued to redefine and popularise jazz across the globe and across generations”.

The group’s latest single, No One’s Watching Me, a sparsely chorded Afrobeat groove topped with a soul-style vocal and featuring a trumpet solo, can be heard and seen on YouTube. The publicist says that it has “continued Ezra Collective’s record-breaking stature as the first jazz single to be added to BBC Radio 1’s B-list, making it their third single to hit Radio 1’s playlists”.
