Art Themen gets a birthday party where he’s the musical attraction in October. He’ll be playing and marking his 85th at Loughton Methodist Church (260 High Road, Loughton, Essex IG10 1RB) on Saturday 26th, accompanied by Pete Whittaker on organ and George Double on drums. The event will be a fundraiser for the organisers, the National Jazz Archive.
Mark Kass, executive chair and CEO of the archive writes: “The post-Beatles UK jazz scene produced some incredible sounds often overlooked by many but as Art and his band will demonstrate, musicians across the UK wrote, produced and performed jazz of a world-class, world-beating standard. Art celebrates these ‘Golden Days of UK Jazz’ alongside his 85th birthday, the launch of his latest album and 2024’s Black History Month.”
