João Gilberto: The Warm World Of

Gilberto's suave, euphonic late 50s bossa-nova album gets a new lease of life on green vinyl, with bonus tracks from Orfeo Negro added

Presented in green vinyl, this release gives us The Warm World Of João Gilberto plus five bonus tracks featured in the film Orfeo Negro back in 1959, the year the original Warm World album was issued in Brazil under the title Chega De Saudade.

Everybody recognises Gilberto as the perfect interpreter of bossa nova, and that’s brought to light perfectly on this reissue. His vocals and guitar work lend themselves beautifully to the subtleties and harmonies of the genre.

The half dozen Antonio Carlos Jobim tracks include such instantly recognisable tunes as Desafinado and Corcovado, which have stood the test of time. But we also get works by other heavyweights of Brazilian music such as Dorival Caymmi, Carlos Lyra and Luiz Bonfá.

It should always be remembered that Gilberto collaborated with Stan Getz on the Getz/Gilberto album, which still remains one of the best-selling jazz albums to the present day.
