Adderley, Cannonball: Sophisticated Swing
They say : The “Cannonball” Adderley Quintet featured on Sophisticated Swing was one of the finest bands of the altoist’s career. Recorded for EmArcy Records, a sub-label of Mercury Records, the quintet included his brother Nat Adderley on cornet, Junior Mance on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Despite their brilliance, the band would only record three LPs together, the other two being ‘Cannonball Enroute’ and ‘Cannonball’s Sharpshooters’. Bareket, Or: /Ayin/
They say : Bareket’s two recent quartet albums Sahar (2022) and Yōm (2024) are among the defining works of the New York sound in the 2020’s. The quartet’s forthcoming album, /Ayin/ follows in those footsteps while building on the language and aesthetics established with long-time collaborators Godwin Louis and Savannah Harris.
