Ronnie Scott’s, November: Lorber, Barron, Lundy, Basie

Other Ronnie's bookings in November include Joe Locke, Donald Harrison, Taylor Eigsti, Alison Rayner, Tenderlonious and Derek Nash

Among the highlights at the newly refurbished Ronnie Scott’s in November are the following:

James Carter Quintet – Lookin’ at Lock: The Music of Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis

Friday 1st November 2024. 5.30pm & 8.30pm (£40.00 – £60.00). They say: “Eddie Davis was a bop stylist whose brawny tone, convulsive energy and reservoir of licks laid down a gladiatorial challenge to any horn player who dared encounter him on a stage or in a recording studio. James Carter displays a similarly ruthless edge, his tenor—one of a contingent of wind instruments that he’s mastered—ripping through chord changes with unabashed vigour and lusty abandon.”

David Murray Quartet

Tuesday 5th November 2024. 5.30pm (£35.00 – £50.00). They say: “Murray’s colourful tone, unsurpassed intonation, sense of swing, melancholy tones, improvisational power and ingenuity make him one of the most important voices in music today. His new quartet combines Murray’s mastery along with the fierceness of Marta Sanchez on the piano, the poetry and dexterity of Luke Stewart on the bass, and the driving pulse of Russell Carter on the drums.”

Jeff Lorber

Saturday 9th November 2024. 5.30pm & 8.30pm. (£35.00 – £40.00) They say: “A groundbreaking Fender Rhodes pioneer along with Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample and Bob James, Jeff Lorber is also one of the most in-demand producers. The trio will be playing music from his 30th album, The Drop, focusing on making music that’s fun, exciting and fresh that will uplift and energise.” Lineup: Lorber – keys; Jimmy Haslip – bass; Joel Taylor – drums.

Carmen Lundy
