What organisers Byrd Out and Waltham Forest council hope will become a serious, established jazz festival for north-east London debuts on 16 February, with the first appearance of the Walthamstow Jazz Festival.

Waltham Forest – London Borough of Culture 2019 – hopes to create a jazz festival that brings together ‘legendary and cutting edge talent’. The first festival will star Cream drummer Ginger Baker (pictured right by Alexis Maryon) who was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 3 drummers of all time. He’ll be performing with his Jazz Confusion outfit. The festival will also feature a DJ set from Django Django and performances from Evan Parker, Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, Thurston Moore, Emma-Jean Thackray, Binker Golding, Elliot Galvin, Project Karnak and others.

The event will take place at the Grade II listed Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

Tickets are now on sale from the Walthamstow Jazz Festival website.
