Flutist, saxophonist, writer, film and TV producer and educator, Peter Westbrook holds a Ph.D. in musicology and has studied jazz with Lionel Grigson, Gary Peacock, Lori Bell and Ali Ryerson, and bansuri with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Dr. Westbrook has many years of experience as a jazz performer, symphony orchestra member, studio musician and lecturer in musicology and music history in the UK, the USA and India. He was director of the Gandharva School of Music in Washington DC and is currently visiting lecturer in the Humanities at Maharishi University of Management. He currently leads two ensembles, Flute Flight UK and The International Jazz Flute Big Band. He is the author of three books including Divine Harmony: The Life and Teachings of Pythagoras, The Flute in Jazz: Window on World Music, for which he produced the documentary film of the same name, and the forthcoming Music, Psyche, Kosmos. He has written for such journals as Down Beat, Flutist Quarterly, Pan, Flute Focus, Cadence, Saxophone Journal, jazzreview.com, Cosmos, Hinduism Today, Ultimate Reality and Meaning and the Journal of Indian Philosophy and Religion. He was the founding chairperson of the World Music Committee of the National Flute Association (USA) and the founder and Editor-In-Chief of International Flute Journal and the publishing firm Harmonia Books & Music.
