Latchin, Gabriel: The Man I Love

They say :  British pianist Gabriel Latchin releases his fifth record, The Man I Love, a heartfelt tribute to the enduring work of George and Ira Gershwin. An artist with 45 million streams to date, his latest release features new arrangements of classics including Summertime and I Got Rhythm. Latham, Karl: Living Standards II

Ledley: Ledley

They say :  Raph Clarkson (trombone, FX) and Chris Williams (alto sax, FX) improvise freely, blending melody, harmony, groove, and experimental, electronic textures whilst Riaan Vosloo added electronics and production in real-time creating rich, exploratory soundscapes. An adventurous tribute to legendary Spurs footballer, Ledley King, here is a celebration of improvisation, friendship, and shared passions, blending music and sport into an exploration of community, belonging, and resilience. Ledoux, Ron: Views, Visions & Destinations

They say :  The group’s 2nd album was born out of an inspired collaboration between guitarist and composer Ron Ledoux and bassist and arranger Gilbert Joanis. This release features explorations of different styles of jazz. The music goes into reflective ECM type moods, exciting Funky Grooves as well as hard swinging jazz. (Self Release)

Lee, Robert: Forbidden West

They say :  ‘Forbidden West’ is the third album from bassist and composer Robert Lee. As a Canadian-born Korean, of immigrant parents, Lee seeks to celebrate his roots through the deep exploration of Korean traditional music while pushing the boundaries of jazz incorporating traditional instrumentation (gayageum), rhythms, styles (Pansori) and melodies . Lindeborg, Susanna, Natural Artefacts: Signs and Symbols

They say :  Natural Artefacts started as a collaboration between composer Per Anders Nilsson and the musicians Susanna Lindeborg and Ove Johansson. Marrows, Billy + Grande Família: The Penelope Album Live

They say :  This album captures the debut performance of Billy’s 12-piece chamber-jazz ensemble Grande Família, recorded live at London’s PizzaExpress Jazz Club. Marsalis, Branford : Belonging

They say :  A full album interpretation of Keith Jarrett’s 1974 ECM album of the same name which introduced the pianist’s European Quartet. Belonging is Marsalis’ first new release since 2019 with his acclaimed longstanding quartet featuring pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis, and drummer Justin Faulkner. (Blue Note Records )

Martins, José Luiz: Odyssey Mixtape

They say :  Jose Luiz Martins’ quartet, augmented by vocals, a judicious use of keyboards, and guitarist John Lee as a guest, explores pieces that were conceived during a period of great turmoil as he found ways to understand and overcome his debilitating neurological condition, Focal Dystonia. Odyssey Mixtape chronicles the interplay between depression and hope, as his ability to play was put on hold for an extended period, leaving his musical mind free to wander. The memories of his youthful interests in Sao Paulo co-mingle with his adult musical sensibilities, creating the core of the themes weaving throughout the album. (Origin)

Masser, Emily: Songs With My Father

They say :  20-year-old Masser’s burgeoning talent has already attracted very positive attention from jazz luminaries such as Claire Martin and Liane Carroll, who have both praised Emily for her original approach to interpretation, making timeless classics sound newly minted and excitingly different. Emily’s new work Songs With My Father is an album dedicated to Emily’s late mother, featuring her father Dean Masser on saxophone and an all-star rhythm section: in-demand Hungarian pianist Matyas Gayer (Eddie Henderson, Scott Hamilton), rising-star bassist James Owston (Xhosa Cole, Greg Abate), and ultra-swinging drummer Steve Brown (Scott Hamilton, Barry Harris). Masson, Nicolas Quartet: Renaissance

They say :  Venturesome saxophonist Nicolas Masson’s acquaintance with fellow quartet members Colin Vallon (piano) Patrice Moret (bass) and Lionel Friedli (drums) goes back roughly two decades – in this time the players have developed an intimate musical bond, expressed beautifully on “Renaissance”. The group’s second recording for ECM comprises ten contrasting originals by Masson and one collective improvisation. (ECM Records 7540837)

They say :  Little Woodstar’s texts refer to names the IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals. They say :  Four Melly albums from 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982, recorded for PYE/PRT Records – Originally a “blues shouter” in the fifties trad boom, Melly managed to reinvent himself musically in the 1970s when former Beatles publicist Derek Taylor signed him to Warner Brothers.These albums are a strong mixture of covers and some original material, with John Chiltern’s Feetwarmers accompanying on three of them (BGO Records BGOCD1532)

Moten, Fred & Brandon Lopez: Revision

They say :  First ever studio recording from poet/theorist Fred Moten and bassist Brandon Lopez. Fred Moten is a professor of performance studies and comparative literature at New York University concerned with social movement, aesthetic experiment, and Black study. Brandon Lopez is a bassist and composer living in New York City. His work deals with improvisation, finding new sonic possibilities on the double bass. (TAO Forms 017)

They say :  3rd studio album from post-genre power trio mssv: drummer Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits, Mavis Staples, David Lynch) and bassist mike watt (MINUTEMEN, fIREHOSE, Stooges) alongside the iconoclastic guitar of bandleader, Mike Baggetta. Mullen, Jim Quartet: For Heaven’s Sake

They say :  Recorded in Copenhagen, in October 2023, and features Danish tenor sax player Jan Harbeck, Chicago organist Ben Paterson, and Danish drummer Kristian Leth.
