Preview: pianist Tom Millar on tour

Millar and his quartet are on the road presenting his new album, Unnatural Events, with concerts including an appearance at the London Jazz Festival

Pianist Tom Millar (pictured right by Aga Tomaszek) is currently on a lengthy tour following the release of his debut album, Unnatural Events (Spark!). The Australian-born musician and composer grew up in London and read music at King's College, Cambridge.

He's joined by his long-term collaborators Misha Mullov-Abbado on bass, Alex Munk on guitar and Dave Storey on drums on the 20-date tour which has taken in venues across England and Wales as well as a date in Switzerland - on some dates Matt Ridley will replace Mullov-Abbado and Jon Scott or Dave Hamblett will dep for Storey. The final date will be at the Green Note in Camden (where he used to run the monthly jam sessions) as part of the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival.

Millar has performed with the Lyric Ensemble, the Tom Smith Septet, Duncan Eagles's quartet and more. He has worked extensively in Switzerland and was the first resident pianist at Quincy Jones's Q's Bar in Dubai. At the Green Note he played regular duo gigs with a range of vocalists including Alice Zawadski, who appears on two tracks on Unnatural Events. Millar recorded the album with help from a Help Musicians UK Emerging Excellence Award, the Jazz Services Recording Support Scheme and a Kickstarter campaign.

The remaining dates on Millar's tour are as follows:

6 October - Burdall's Yard, Bath
19 October - Keble College, Oxford
20 October - Chichester Jazz Club
24 October - Jazz At The Spotted Dog, Birmingham
25 October - Swing Unlimited, Bournemouth
