Sportiello's Concorde hit

Rossano SportielloReader Gordon Sapsed enjoyed pianist Rossano Sportiello at the Concorde, Eastleigh in April

Further to your news piece "Swing into spring with Sportiello, Peps et al" on 25 March, last night I went to the Rossano Sportiello concert at the Concorde in Eastleigh, where I gave him a copy of my photo published in Jazz Journal March 2011 alongside your review of his Lucky To Be Me album on Arbors ARCD 19408.

He was a HUGE hit in what was a trio gig, with a full house, a standing ovation and two encores. He included a special tribute to George Shearing and 20 minutes of hugely well received solo improvisations on classical pieces.

Bassist Dave Chamberlain and drummer Matt Home did a great job with Rossano. Dave was also at the Concorde with Back To Basie last week and judging by these performances he must rate as one of the UK's top two or three bass players these days.
