Preview: more for EFG London Jazz




The EFG London Jazz Festival has announced its third wave of shows, with another 14 concerts including appearances from Keith Tippett and Yazz Ahmed

Among the artists in the latest wave of shows for this year's festival - the 25th, which runs from Friday 10 to Sunday 19 November - are tabla player Zakir Hussain, joined by Dave Holland and Chris Potter; a concert by leading ACT Music artists to celebrate the label's own 25th anniversary; a triple bill of Led Bib, Schnellertollermeier and World Service Project; and trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah with a new band.

Four concerts feature music specially commissioned by the festival's 25 For 25 - New Music Matters programme. The Keith Tippett Octet is joined by keyboardist Matthew Bourne for an evening of Tippett's music; pianist and composer Roland Perrin performs his latest choral symphony, Rio Amazonas, with his jazz trio, the Blue Planet Orchestra and massed school choirs at a Barbican matinee show; trumpeter and composer Yazz Ahmed (pictured right) gives a London debut to her latest album, La Saboteuse; and trumpeter Terence Blanchard plays his extended composition, Herbie Hancock: By Himself, with his quintet and the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Other acts announced include Zara McFarlane; "futuresonic funk-pop" act Knower; a triple-bill of Soothsayers, Arun Ghosh Sextet and Lokkhi Terra; and another triple-bill of the Michael Janisch Quartet, Henry Spencer's Juncture and the Zhenya Strigalev Trio. Vocalist Ranjana Ghatak and Led Bib bassist Liran Donin present two shows for younger fans at Wigmore Hall, both starting at 11.00am: Jazz Around The World, for Key Stage 3 school pupils and World Of Jazz for families and children aged 5+.
